Stand Up Blue Valley volunteers have been working for 11 years to protect our neighborhood schools from bad legislation and anti-public education special interests. Cindy Holscher has been doing this work too, first as a parent volunteer and then for 10 years as a State Legislator.
We urge voters who are registered Democratic to vote for Cindy Holscher in the Democratic primary on Tues., Aug. 4, 2026 (with Advance Voting starting on Sat., July 18) . Unaffiliated voters can request a D or R ballot and choose to vote in either party’s primary. (We’ll discuss the Republican gubernatorial primary in a separate upcoming post.) In the November general election, voters can select from ANY candidate on their ballot, regardless of political party.
Kansas needs a governor who has the demonstrated experience, legislative voting record, and political will to tackle tough issues like school funding, voucher expansion, property taxes, voting rights, and protecting our district’s Local Control authority. We believe Cindy Holscher is the most qualified candidate in the Democratic primary to meet those challenges as Kansas Governor.
As a PTA volunteer in her kids’ schools, Cindy saw the effects of the disastrous Brownback tax cuts. She recognized that her own state legislators were voting 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵
the interests of her community - while 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 “𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁” 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀. Cindy walked to Topeka with Game On for Kansas Schools to publicize and protest the damage being done to public education in our state. She realized “Somebody needs to DO something - and I’m Somebody.”
Cindy ran for State Representative in 2016 against one of the worst Brownback legislators in Kansas, in a reliably Republican district. She won by more than 10 percentage points, because her moderate, common-sense platform crossed party lines in its appeal. Cindy's work ethic, community connections, and reputation were strong enough that she scared off a longtime anti-public education State Senator - an architect of the Brownback experiment - just by filing to run against him in 2020. He dropped out, and Cindy won that race (again, in a majority-Republican district) and became a State Senator.
As a legislator, Cindy co-founded the 𝗯𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻 women’s caucus that led to the defeat of the Brownback experiment in 2017. She has voted FOR our kids’ BV Schools EVERY time. Representing parts of Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, and Olathe, Cindy meets with School Board members, district officials, teachers, and parents to understand the issues and how to support the schools that make our community one of the top places in the country to raise a family.
𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 - 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀. Along the way she has introduced amendments to maximize funding for our public schools and support our teachers. She listened to parents and school districts when she voted NO on the ultra-restrictive “cell phone ban” that will cost Blue Valley Schools MILLIONS of dollars to implement. This is because Cindy knew our locally-elected School Board 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘥 a no-cost policy that was working. Her NO vote supported Local Control. Cindy has been clear with voters: KsLeg shouldn’t set policy for school districts: we have locally-elected School Boards to do that, along with oversight from an elected State Board of Education.
Cindy has also voted for common sense gun safety legislation designed to keep guns out of schools and off college campuses (with obvious exceptions for trained security personnel and law enforcement). She always supports voting rights and votes against measures to restrict them. Cindy knows that “School Choice” isn’t a good choice for Kansas taxpayers, public schools, or students.
Cindy teams up with other area legislators to hold regular public Town Halls EVERY year - not just in election years. She effectively communicates with her constituents to let them know what’s happening in Topeka, and to hear voter concerns about the help they need from their legislators.
Cindy even supports area public schools by working as a substitute teacher. She has challenged fellow legislators to do the same, in an effort to better understand the challenges our Kansas public schools face today.
Cindy Holscher walks the walk. She has served in the Kansas Legislature for 10 sessions. She understands how to work across the aisle to get things done, and she doesn’t back down when she knows something isn’t right for Kansas.
Cindy’s opponents in the Democratic primary haven’t defeated anti-public education extremists; they haven’t led for 10 years in the Kansas Legislature; they haven’t stood on the floor for 10 years introducing amendments designed to minimize the damage of legislation to our schools; they haven’t run - and won - races in highly-competitive districts.
