Benson, Evans, Knapp are personally invested; endorsed by BV parents
Blue Valley parents have endorsed candidates for School Board who will keep our district doing what it does best: educating children. We’ve endorsed candidates who will put STUDENTS first - NOT extreme ideologies. Benson, Evans, and Knapp are the only candidates in this race with children or grandchildren currently attending BV Schools. They are personally invested in the success of our district. The candidates we’ve endorsed will protect taxpayer dollars with careful stewar

Vote Gina Knapp for Blue Valley School Board
In her 4 years in office, Gina Knapp has advocated for support and funding of our kids’ Blue Valley Schools by traveling multiple times to Topeka - and even to Washington, D.C. - to talk with elected officials about how their votes impact funding here at home. Her opponent, Steve Roberts, supports vouchers to divert funding from public schools to private ones. Knapp has a comprehensive understanding of school district finances after 4 years on the BV Board and is CFO of a maj

Moms For Liberty is wrong for Blue Valley
BV School Board member Jim McMullen is active in the local Moms For Liberty chapter, often speaking at their meetings. They have enthusiastically backed McMullen for re-election this year. We’ve covered MFL before, but it’s time for an update. History: Moms For Liberty is an astroturf (fake grassroots) organization founded in Jan. 2021 by three former Florida school board members and financially backed by undisclosed donors. One of MFL’s founders resigned in late 2021 amid a

Let’s look at some of the other votes where McMullen was the ONLY No vote
During his time in office, McMullen cast the only NO vote a number of times. One recent vote has been the topic of much conversation, even media coverage. In that case, due to personnel confidentiality issues, no one but the Board members know the full reasoning behind their votes. However McMullen has voted NO while 6 others voted YES quite a few times - not always the same 6 others, since his term has overlapped that of outgoing and incoming members. McMullen and Gina Knapp

McMullen has voted NO 3 times on mental health supports
During Jim McMullen’s 4 years on the Board of Education, he has voted NO 3 times on a contract with Children’s Mercy Hospital to provide masters-level Social Workers in BV Schools. Each vote was 6 - 1, with McMullen the lone NO vote. Several years ago, Blue Valley faced several youth suicides and suicide attempts yearly. District leaders and community members came together to try and do something about these tragedies. One solution was to enhance mental health resources by pr

Who we endorse, who we DON'T endorse, and why
Advance voting starts Sat., Oct. 25 at BV Hilltop and other locations and continues through Mon., Nov. 3. Election Day is Tues., Nov. 4. Like we’ve done since 2015, SUBV volunteers evaluated candidates for the BV School Board. We’ve tracked every vote of incumbents during their time in office. We reviewed candidates’ histories, public statements, and known affiliations with other groups. We’ve provided detailed reasoning for our endorsements, published on social media and on

McMullen voted against needed technology
BV School Board member Jim McMullen has repeatedly voted against basic technology that students need for success in K-12 and beyond - college, career, and the global economy. For example, McMullen voted against tech contracts to supply middle and high school students with chromebooks and laptops. These district-issued devices are essential for classwork, homework, some textbook access, AP and PSAT/SAT/ACT prep and testing, and more. 𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶
