Dr. Sonya Evans was appointed to the Board of Education in 2023, to fill a vacancy. She has served 2 years, and is running for her first full term.
Evans, a longtime Blue Valley resident, holds an EdD degree from Saint Louis University, EdS from Saint Louis University, MBA from Rockhurst University, and a BS in Organizational Management and Leadership.
She has served on many volunteer committees in the district, including the Blue Valley Curriculum and Instruction Board Advisory Committee, Blue Valley Strategic Planning Committee, Blue Valley Educational Foundation (BVEF) Grant Committee, and BVEF Women’s Giving Circle. She serves on the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) Advisory Board and has served on BVEF Advisory Board.
Evans and her husband have resided in Leawood and the Blue Valley School District for over 25 years. She is a member of Leawood Rotary and very active in the community. Her two sons graduated from Blue Valley Schools and her grandson attends a BV School.
Dr. Evans has no opponent in her race, which means she’ll retain her seat on the School Board. This is good news for BV students. However, it’s still important to recognize her record of voting in our kids’ best interests while on the BOE. We encourage our members to cast their ballot for her, even though she is unopposed. ALL BV voters can vote for Evans in the Tues., Nov. 4, 2025 election, with Advance In-Person Voting beginning on Sat., Oct. 25.
