Blue Valley Schools claps back at misinformation

Last week, the KC Star published an opinion column with misleading, negative claims about Blue Valley Schools. We’re extremely pleased to see the district setting the record straight in today's column from Superintendent Dr. Gillian Chapman.

Be sure to read Dr. Chapman’s column (link above; also posted below) for accurate information on several frequently-discussed topics. Parents/guardians of BV students received an email with the same information on Thurs., Sept. 18.

Remember our advice: if someone is spreading negative narratives about our EXCELLENT Blue Valley Schools - ask yourself who they are, and 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖?

Google the author of last week’s Star opinion piece: He works for a 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪

organization that advocates for 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 and widespread privatization; SourceWatch reports it was founded by a right-wing billionaire and is led by “wealthy conservatives.” Hmmm. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲? We’re guessing NOT one supporting excellence in public education.

“Opinion” pieces can masquerade as fact by citing (and twisting) numbers and sources. Readers may not be aware that the ***source*** of the KC Star’s "opinion" piece is PAID to develop anti-public education propaganda by those whose agenda is privatization of American public schools! We see similar propaganda from anti-public education Kansas legislators, other paid employees of similar organizations (Dave Trabert of KPI), even candidates for our School Board.

Headlines like the one by the guy from Missouri - or ones promoted by KPI and Americans For (Their Own) Prosperity - are designed to undermine voter confidence in public schools and Blue Valley Schools. It’s awesome to see the district clapping back.   We hope to see more efforts to set the record straight in the future!
