Candidate Profile: Clay Norkey

We’ve endorsed Clay Norkey for election to the Blue Valley School Board.

Clay Norkey currently serves the Blue Valley community as the Chair of the Blue Valley Recreation Commission. He has served as a BVRC commissioner since 2015, during which time he oversaw the construction of the Blue Valley Rec Center at Hilltop and continues to oversee its operation, as well as the BVRC Sports Complex and the BVRC Activity Center.


Supports our Schools: Norkey says, “If it ain't broke, don't break it!” He recognizes that our BV Schools are achieving EXCELLENT results for our students and our community. “Blue Valley is nurturing confident, well-rounded young people graduating career- and college-ready!”


School Involvement: Norkey founded and Chairs the Blue Valley West Father’s Club. The Father’s Club connects dads with dads and supports students with a presence at games and school events, encourages and supports school staff, and supports mental health initiatives. Under Norkey’s leadership, the Father’s Club was awarded the 2023 Blue Valley Schools “Friends of Education” award, which recognizes individuals and organizations in the community who have made outstanding contributions to public education.


Community Connections: Norkey is a longtime member and volunteer at Church of the Resurrection’s Leawood campus. He has chaired both the Board of Trustees and the Church Council at COR. He spent 12 years coaching youth sports through BVRC. He is the former president of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City.


Athletics Expertise: Athletics is an important part of many Blue Valley middle and high school students’ experiences, and BV excels at providing multiple opportunities for sports experiences. Norkey has been a Blue Valley Rec Commissioner for 8 years, and coached youth sports for 12. His understanding of issues around athletics will be an asset to the 7-member Board of Education - where all members bring their unique experiences and perspectives.

Clay Norkey is an attorney who owns his own practice. He has been active in Blue Valley Schools for nearly 25 years. He and his wife, Dr. Sherri Martin, a pediatrician, have sent all of their nine children to BV schools.
