Career and Technical Education in Blue Valley

Through partnerships with Johnson County Community College and the Overland Park Fire Department, Blue Valley’s Career Ready Programs offer college credit, hands-on learning, and preparation for high-skill, high-wage, high demand careers. It’s another way BV high school students can experience real-world career-focused learning and earn college credit while in high school.

Blue Valley’s partnership with JCCC creates the opportunity for degree options in Automotive Technology, Construction Management, Culinary and Hospitality, and HVAC, Welding, and Metal Fabrication. Fire Science Program, a partnership with the Overland Park Fire Department, provides courses that will prepare students for certification exams required to be a firefighter.

High school students enrolled in CRP spend a half day at their home high school and the other half day at JCCC or other sites. The district’s Career Ready Program Liaison and the counselors at each high school work to help students plan a schedule that includes Career Ready coursework.

Take a look here at the Career Ready Programs the district offers. If you have kids in elementary or middle school, talk to them about opportunities they might want to take advantage of in a few years!
