Email your State Representative now to OPPOSE SB 87 or any other expansion of voucher-like schemes that divert public dollars to private, exclusive schools. Find your KS Rep and their email address here: https://ksleglookup.org

SB 87, an expansion of Kansas’ voucher-like program, passed the KS Senate last month and will be heard in the House Education Committee on Monday. In that KS Senate vote, Kellie Warren and TJ Rose voted to give even more tax money to private schools, diverting those dollars from the state general fund. BV-area Sen. Cindy Holscher voted NO. While proponents have labeled the scheme the “Tax Credit Scholarship Program,” it’s literally vouchers, plain and simple. The plan subsidizes tuition to private, selective schools using public tax money - yet with NO public oversight of how that money is used or what the outcomes are. More info on how the program works (this post is from 2020, but details are basically the same): https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/stand-up-blue-valley-testifies-in-opposition-to-publicly-funded-private-school-scholarships

Read our testimony to the House Education Committee, with more details about why SUBV opposes SB 87, here: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/subv-submits-testimony-in-opposition-to-voucher-expansion

Note that the official position of Blue Valley Schools and the Board of Education is to oppose tax money for private schools, as well.

SB 87 will almost certainly pass out of committee - so go ahead and email your KS Representative now to ask them to vote NO on ANY bill that uses public money to fund private school tuition - including, but not limited to, SB 87. Include your full name and address. Let us know if you get a reply.
