Why does AFP want you to vote their way?

Theyโ€™re paying people to go door to door, and buying social media ads and mailers.

But where does AFP get ALL THAT MONEY to pay for door knockers, literature printing and mailing, and social media ads? ๐—ก๐—ข ๐—ข๐—ก๐—˜ ๐—ž๐—ก๐—ข๐—ช๐—ฆ.ย

AFP isnโ€™t required to disclose who funds them. For all we know, their financial backers aren't even from Kansas! Groups like AFP are called โ€œastroturfโ€ because theyโ€™re FAKE โ€œgrassrootsโ€ organizations. They play like โ€œvolunteersโ€ going door to door, when theyโ€™re actually a bunch of paid canvassers bused in to knock on votersโ€™ doors. (Ironically, one of AFP's big buzzwords is "transparencyโ€ - give us a break.)

๐—ฆ๐—ผ ๐˜„๐—ต๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐˜€ โ€œ๐—”๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†" ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ this much about how Kansas Supreme Court justices are selected? What donโ€™t they like about how the current Court is deciding cases? And ๐™ฌ๐™๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ฎ ๐™ก๐™ฎ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช about the current process?

Theyโ€™re lying to us?! YES.

AFP-KS calls the current system of appointing, then electing, Supreme Court Justices โ€œa process that operates behind closed doors.โ€ In fact, the current process involves a commission that takes applications - and applicant names are ๐™ฅ๐™ช๐™—๐™ก๐™ž๐™˜. The interviews are ๐™ฅ๐™ช๐™—๐™ก๐™ž๐™˜.

AFP-KS ๐˜ค๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ดย the process is โ€œcontrolled by lawyersโ€ when, in fact, the 9-member commission includes one lawyer and one ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ-๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ธ๐˜บ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณย from each of the four KS Congressional districts. Weโ€™ve heard feedback from many lawyers in recent weeks - and they ALL support the current system and plan to vote NO.

AFP-KS also ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ฏโ€™๐˜ต ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ that the current system for selection is based on a constitutional amendment voted on in 1958 after a famous scam whereby the governor lost re-election, his buddy resigned from the KS Supreme Court, he resigned as governor - then his other buddy (the Lt Governor) appointed him to the Supreme Court vacancy. THAT is the result of the process AFP-KS wants to reimplement. So much for transparency.

AFP-KS ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ดย voters donโ€™t have a say - when, in fact, justices stand for retention votes after the first year and then every 6 years.

AFP-KS also fails to tell you why theyโ€™re deeply involved in this issue. Their usual focus is on privatization (๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜‡๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป) of public services, including (largely) public schools. So...the KS Supreme Court ruling that the state must follow the constitution and fund public schools adequately - as defined by actual facts - isnโ€™t popular with them. AFP wants to profit from K-12 education in Kansas. They are involved for this reason.
