Aug. 4 2026: election wins for BV kids

Democratic voters both in JoCo and statewide selected 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 in yesterday’s primary election. We endorsed Holscher because she has a VOTING RECORD of supporting our BV Schools ever since she was first elected to KsLeg in 2016. Holscher has also a demonstrated track record of listening to her constituents and standing up to extraordinary political pressure from BOTH sides of the aisle. We look forward to endorsing her again in the general election. Johnson County voter turnout, while sad at almost 37%, was pretty good for a primary election. Thanks to all our members who voted! 

We were very disappointed to see KS Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt lose to Trump-backed Ty Masterson in the Republican primary. Our SUBV steering committee met with Schmidt this summer, and volunteers reviewed both her voting record while in the legislature and her gubernatorial campaign statements. We were proud to endorse Schmidt and hoped to endorse her again in November. We appreciate that she ran for governor after an esteemed career of public service. We wish more centrist Republicans, like Schmidt, would run for office like they did pre-2022.

Holscher will face Masterson (also a state senator) in the November election. 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. He was also instrumental in getting the (FAILED) constitutional amendment on the August ballot. Masterson has worked AGAINST our kids’ schools since day one in KsLeg. In the coming weeks, we’ll provide the history of his votes, actions, and statements to show why Masterson is NOT a reasonable choice for Kansas Governor - regardless of one’s political affiliation.

Blue Valley voters joined the rest of Kansans when we again said NO to a constitutional amendment brought by anti-public school extreme legislators. This amendment would have had far-reaching consequences on our state’s Supreme Court makeup. Kansans understood that we should NOT hand over the keys to billionaires who have endless money to pour into misinformation campaigns. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗞𝗦 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲? 

Ultimately, it’s up to voters: putting a constitutional amendment on the ballot requires a 2/3 majority of legislators in BOTH the KS Senate and House. (It doesn’t require the governor’s signature.) So 𝙞𝙛 𝙆𝙎 𝙫𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙋 𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙫𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙩, 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙙, 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙗𝙞𝙜-𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙬𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙪𝙣𝙥𝙤𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙬-𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙩.

Democratic voters in HD 26 selected Laura Johnson to run for KS House, and those in HD 27 selected Sara Kiewiet. Congratulations to both, and thanks to their D opponents Robert Collins in HD 26 and Ed Young in HD 27 for running and helping to draw attention to the MAGA Republicans holding these seats who do NOT represent the best interests of our kids and their schools.

State Board of Education District 3 Republican voters had two really bad choices on their ballot. Of those, former BV School Board member and Local Moms for Liberty-backed candidate Jim McMullen advanced as the Republican nominee. We recently saw mailers from The 1776 Project PAC for McMullen.  (You’ll recall that “1776” candidates were defeated in several school board races across the country a couple years ago, including in Blue Valley.) This important State Board of Education position covers portions of Blue Valley and several other outstanding school districts. Across Kansas, there are 5 SBOE seats (out of 10) on the ballot in November. Let’s do OUR part to avoid taking our state board back to a time when we made national news NOT in a good way.
