Cindy Holscher for KS Senate District 8

We’ve endorsed Senator Cindy Holscher for re-election to Kansas State Senate District 8. District 8 includes parts of the Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, and Olathe school districts.

Sen. Cindy Holscher has served in the KS Legislature since 2016, first in the House, and as a Senator since 2021. During her time in the legislature, Holscher has been a staunch supporter of our kids’ public schools. She voted to overturn the Brownback tax disaster and has supported adequate funding of public education and measures to support teachers. Holscher opposes using tax money to fund private schools, and sponsored legislation that would hold private schools accountable to standards including requiring state assessment tests (that bill died in committee). She helped found the bipartisan women’s caucus and has worked across the aisle to address our community's needs in areas including mental health support, public safety, protections for children, eliminating the state sales tax on food, and Medicaid expansion.

Holscher’s children attend, or have graduated from, Olathe public schools. Her involvement as a parent and PTA member made Holscher realize the need for state legislators who value public education and vote for our community - NOT for Americans for Prosperity! She first unseated an AFP-backed state Rep in 2016, then in 2020 won a seat previously held by one of the worst anti-public school Kansas Senators, Jim Denning. What a welcome change for her constituents, and for Johnson County overall!

Holscher has been an active public education advocate going back to before her first legislative run. She has been an involved member of Game On for Kansas Schools, Freedom to Learn, and Stand Up Blue Valley. She has served on PTAs at her kids’ schools and even substitutes at her local Olathe public schools. Holscher has regularly challenged every member of the legislature to substitute in a Kansas public school for at least one day each year.

Holscher’s opponent is a member of the local Moms For Liberty chapter. Read more here: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/who-are-the-moms-for-liberty She ran unsuccessfully for JCCC Trustee in 2023, where she placed 6th of 8 in the primary and did not advance to the general election. (Her campaign FB page largely refers to the JCC Trustee race, not the 2024 legislative race.) As of this date, her website does not mention public education.
