Pro-public education candidates needed ASAP for KsLeg

Our neighborhood schools suffered real damage in the 2026 Kansas Legislative session. Unless community members are willing to run for the KS Legislature NOW, Blue Valley Schools stand to face irreparable damage.

Despite the work of some legislators to protect our schools, the overall legislative body in Topeka is strongly anti-public education. The legislature is controlled by a supermajority of anti-public education state senators and representatives. This means even a veto by a pro-public education governor can be overridden if the anti-education bloc votes together. We’ve detailed several instances of these votes on our page over the past several weeks.

The good news? This fall, EVERY state Representative is up for election. (KS Senators have 2 more years in their 4-year terms.) Blue Valley voters CAN make a difference by getting rid of those who consistently vote against our schools and community AND re-electing pro-public education Reps.

The not-so-good news: 𝗢𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗩-𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗞𝗦 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗧 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀, 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼-𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 (May 2). These three Reps (Chris Croft, Sean Tarwater, and Carl Turner) REFUSE to fully fund our schools, while voting to give tax money to private schools through voucher-like schemes that have ZERO transparency or public oversight. Croft, Tarwater, and Turner show themselves by their votes to be anti-public education, anti-Blue Valley, and anti-educator, though they try to pretend otherwise during election season.

Mon., June 1, is the filing deadline for all offices up for election this year in Kansas. Here are inks to maps of the 3 KS House districts that still need a pro-public education candidate:

Look at those district boundaries and put on your thinking caps. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗞𝗦 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. There’s less than a month before the deadline, and this is an important decision: the job requires being ready to raise funds, campaign, and then serve in Topeka from early January through April in 2027 and 2028.

(Note that KS House districts 16, 20, 29, 48, and 49 already have outstanding pro-public ed incumbents who vote for our BV Schools and who are running again. We thank them!)

Over the past two weeks we’ve run a 4-part series to wrap up the session. Each post included vote counts by BV-area legislators on important bills. Read those on our Blog, and see why Blue Valley voters need a pro-public education choice in those districts!

NOTE: The following legislators voted FOR our kids’ schools EVERY time, by voting NO on a budget that didn’t fund our schools; NO on more tax money giveaways to private schools; NO on bills to usurp authority of our elected School Board and State Board of Education; NO on attempts to restrict voting rights; and NO on Big Brother legislation that restricts parent rights:

Rep. Linda Featherston (HD 16)

Rep. Mari-Lynn Poskin (HD 20)

Rep. Heather Meyer (HD 29)

Rep. Dan Osman ((HD 48)

Rep. Nikki McDonald (HD 49)

Sen. Cindy Holscher (SD 8)

ALL of the above Representatives are running again and should be re-elected.

BV-area Sen. Cindy Holscher is running for KS Governor and has opponents in the August 2026 Democratic primary - more to come on that.

The following BV-area legislators voted AGAINST our kids’ schools when they voted FOR of the issues listed above. See vote charts on the SUBV FB and Blog posts for details:

Rep. Chris Croft (HD 8)

Rep. Chip VanHouden (HD 26)

Rep. Sean Tarwater (HD 27)

Rep. Carl Turner (HD 28)

Sen. Kellie Warren (SD 11)

Sen. TJ Rose (SD 35)

People move to Blue Valley so their kids can attend one of the best school districts in the country. Unfortunately, we manage to elect representatives who go to Topeka and vote against funding our schools - and then lie about their voting records when they campaign. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀! Please share this post and think about who you know who would better represent Blue Valley voters.
