Early voting starts Sat., Oct. 25 and continues every day except Sundays, through Election Day, Nov. 4. Your help is needed to Get Out The Vote for our three endorsed candidates.
Make sure your friends and neighbors know about this election and who you are supporting: copy this Voting Guide to text to them. Turnout is usually low in odd year elections, and your friends will appreciate the reminder and the advice. Remind them: ALL voters will vote in ALL 3 races.
To read how we made our recommendations, see this Blog post: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/who-we-endorse-who-we-don-t-endorse-and-why We have many other posts on our Blog about the candidates and issues in this critical election.
In the Northwest area, Blue Valley voters will choose between Gina Knapp, a Blue Valley parent and 4-year incumbent on the Board, who has served as BOE VP and President; and Steve Roberts, who made headlines as a member of the Kansas State Board of Education when he used the “N-word” during a SBOE meeting - shocking fellow SBOE members and attendees. Roberts has a history of other controversial behavior (if you even need to know anything else); read here: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/keep-steve-roberts-off-our-school-board-your-vote-for-gina-knapp-is-critical
In the South area, BV grandparent, retired educator and former BV Superintendent Dr. David Benson is the clear choice. Dr. Benson served the BV community in the Kansas Legislature as well. His experience in education and as a legislator will be great assets to the Board.
Benson’s opponent Jim McMullen has been on the School Board for 4 years and has voted against mental health supports for BV students, against safety and security with votes against technology, and against high school athletes when he voted against turf fields and hitting tunnels. Read more here: https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/our-reasons-for-not-endorsing-jim-mcmullen-details-and-links
McMullen is backed by and is an active member of Moms For Liberty, a Florida-based anti-public education group that attacks teachers, opposes school nurses, and has made national headlines for extreme views and positions. https://www.standupbluevalley.org/post/six-reasons-why-moms-for-liberty-is-an-extremist-organization
In the Northeast area, Dr. Sonya Evans is unopposed for re-election; we have endorsed her and recommend a vote for her as well.
Vote early, and post on your social media to encourage your friends. Send everyone our Voting Guide. It’s time to Get Out The Vote!
