Should Blue Valley students Read Great Books? They already do!

Blue Valley Schools places a strong priority on literacy. Middle and high school students take English Language Arts every year, where they read a variety of “classic” (older) and more “modern” literature. In fact, they not only read, but they also discuss, write about, and compare works of literature.

Important classic works are studied - along with modern literature. New, amazing novels are still being written. It’s a disservice to graduate 21st-century students without introducing them to a variety of important books - including some written in the past 50 years.

Blue Valley district curriculum is aligned to Kansas State College and Career Readiness standards for each subject, and 4 credits (4 years) of High School ELA credit is required to graduate.

We’ve endorsed Dr. David Benson, Dr. Sonya Evans, and Gina Knapp for BV School Board. They appreciate the importance of teaching classic literature and also embrace forward-thinking 21st century skills for college and career readiness.
