How will Project 2025 affect Blue Valley Schools?

You’ve probably heard about Project 2025: the 900-page document authored by the ultraconservative Heritage Foundation. Project 2025 proposes upheavals in virtually all areas of the federal government - should Heritage’s candidate, Donald Trump, win the White House.

You also might be wondering how Project 2025 would affect our Blue Valley Schools - which is a great question! But did you know that MANY Kansas legislators, including several Blue Valley-area legislators, are already working from a playbook that’s similar to Project 2025?

State Senator Kellie Warren, along with KS House Reps. Chris Croft, Sean Tarwater, and Carl Turner have ALREADY voted to divert your tax money away from public schools to private, often religious, some for-profit, and even unregulated private schools that can discriminate against any student or family for any reason. Funding private schools with public tax dollars is a central tenet of Project 2025 - but these Blue Valley-area legislators have been working to take money away from our kids and their neighborhood schools for years! https://shorturl.at/Zec4O

These legislators have also voted to usurp the authority of our locally-elected Board of Education and State Board of Education, and dictate how our BV Schools must do things. https://www.kslegislature.org/li_2022/b2021_22/measures/hb2089/

These legislators amplify the rhetoric around “parents’ rights,'' even though parents already have every right regarding their children. Claiming otherwise is an attempt to undermine trust in teachers, school staff, and our Board of Education. This strategy is straight out of the Project 2025 playbook.

We know the majority of BV voters support our public schools. Voters want schools funded and appropriately staffed. They don’t support vouchers. They don’t like elected officials micromanaging and spreading false, negative information about BV Schools - which causes good teachers and administrators to leave, and undermines our property values.

We also know that some people are worried about Project 2025 - including how its education-related proposals would hurt our children and their neighborhood schools.

This worry is long overdue.

Legislators Kellie Warren, Chris Croft, Sean Tarwater, and Carl Turner are already working to implement tenets reflective of Project 2025. We KNOW what they’ll do if reelected.

If you plan to vote against the destructive plans of Project 2025 this November...do NOT cast a ballot for state legislators who vote against our students and their award-winning schools. Blue Valley voters can - and should - reject Project 2025 at the national level. However, we must also reject similar efforts here at home.
